（1）高松でブームに・・・３人でプレーする卓球 2001/02/19 今、高松市でとてもユニークな卓球が静かなブームを呼んでいます。高松市内の卓球センターに去年の９月に登場した「アイランドボール」というもので、丸いテーブルを３つ並べて３人で打ち合います。テーブルを島に見立てたことから、「アイランドボール」と名づけられました。 １個のボールを３人で打ち合いますが、２人でする卓球と違い、いつボールが飛んでくるかわからないのがスリリングです。１５点先取でスマッシュを決めたり相手がをミスすると得点になります。また、テーブルの真ん中の穴に直接ボールをいれると５点が得点できるボーナスもあります。 この３人打ち卓球、日本で出来たのですが、まだ大阪と高松にしかありません。高松に持ちこんだのは、卓球の元中国代表で東四国国体では監督として香川県を優勝に導いた魯忠明（ろちゅうめい）さんです。魯さんは「高松から全国に発信できればいいなという計画を発明者と一緒に立てた」と話しています。 このアイランドボール、高松に登場してまだ半年弱ですが、普通の卓球よりも多い人数ででき、角のない丸い台なのでけがの心配もないということで、お客さんも「すごく楽しい」「普通の卓球に比べてみんなと一緒に出来るっていうのがいい」などと好評です。魯社長は「全ての人に楽しめるようなムードを作っていきたい」と話しており、世界にまだ高松と大阪の２か所しかないこのアイランドボール、高松から日本中に広がるニュースポーツになるかも知れません。

(2)The Boom in Takamatsu - Table Tennis for Three February 19, 2001 In Takamatsu City there is a very unique game of table tennis that is making a quiet boom. It is called "Island Ball" and first appeared at the Table Tennis Center in Takamatsu last September. Three round tables are lined up and three people play each other. The tables looked like islands and hence the name. Three people hit one ball, but the difference with regular table tennis, is the thrill of not knowing when the ball is going to come. It is the first to 15, and you gain a point by smashing the ball away or by an opponent missing a shot. There is also a 5-point bonus if you can get the ball straight in a hole in the middle of the tables. This three-player table tennis was created in Japan, but so far is only being played in Osaka and Takamatsu. The person who brought it to Takamatsu is Ro Chumei, who, as manager, led Kagawa Prefecture to victory at the East Shikoku National Competition, and who himself is a former Chugoku Region representative. Ro says, "The inventor and I are planning to launch the game out from Takamatsu to all over the country." Island Ball has only been in Takamatsu for just over half a year, but has already won great popularity as, compared to regular table tennis, more people can play at once, and there are no worries of injuring yourself on the round tables. Patrons remarked, "It's great fun," and, "It's better than regular table tennis, because everyone can play together." Ro Chumei said, "I want to create a mood where everyone is enjoying themselves." Who knows? Maybe Island Ball, which is still only played in two places in the whole world, Takamatsu and Osaka, will become the new sport and spread throughout Japan from Takamatsu.
